What difference does the source explain?
Autodesk's Fusion drawing guidance explains that, in first-angle projection, the view placed to the right of a base view depicts the left side. In third-angle projection that position depicts the right side. It also notes that software defaults can be overridden. Do not infer the convention solely from a template name or the country of a supplier.
Genset Enclosures is independent and is not affiliated with Autodesk. This guide checks drawing interpretation; it does not certify compliance with a drafting standard or supply a manufacturing instruction.

How should the views be reconciled before fabrication review?
Confirm the issued convention and explicit face labels against the approved model or reference geometry. Keep the drawing of a panel separate from a view of the assembled enclosure.
| Check | Evidence | Mismatch to flag |
|---|---|---|
| Convention | Declared projection and approved drawing basis | View placement interpreted under another convention |
| Front face | Defined enclosure datum and viewing direction | Different teams choose different front faces |
| Side view | Face label and projection relationship | Left face interpreted as right |
| Top or bottom | Explicit view identity | Feature position read from the wrong face |
| Feature location | Approved opening or hardware reference | Asymmetric features mirrored by interpretation |
| Panel identity | Panel reference and inside/outside designation | Loose panel drawing confused with assembly view |
| Disposition | Controlled corrected views and reviewer | No silent relabelling of geometry |
What can happen to a one-sided service opening?
Illustrative example. A fictional first-angle GA places the left-side view to the right of the front view. A reviewer accustomed to third-angle drawings assumes it is the right-side view and marks a service opening on the wrong enclosure face.
The review returns to the declared convention, actual face labels and approved model. The team records which panel carries the opening and resolves any conflicting view caption before issuing the corrected set. No real opening dimensions or service clearances are specified.
Do not merely mirror the opening to make the sheet appear consistent. The approved equipment interfaces and enclosure arrangement determine its real location.
What should a mixed-source package retain?
Record the convention of each supplied drawing where it differs from the project basis. For imported details, make the face and orientation explicit in the controlled output rather than assume adjacent views share one convention. A detail copied from another sheet can retain an orientation that differs from the assembled GA.
Review top, side and panel views together, with the source model or approved geometry available. This check does not replace structural, acoustic, ventilation or access design. Engineering sign-off is performed only by the registered engineer on the job.
Common questions
What else should the bid team know?
Is the right-hand view always the right face?
No. Confirm the projection convention.
Can a software template name settle the convention?
No. Verify the actual drawing and any overrides.
May a mismatch be closed by mirroring a feature?
Only an authorized geometry disposition can determine the real feature location.
