Why must the hardware convention be named?
Allegion's lock-handing guidance uses a stated outside or secure-side view and distinguishes hinge side from whether the door swings towards or away from the viewer. That is a manufacturer convention for its hardware guidance, not proof that every industrial enclosure supplier uses identical abbreviations.
Genset Enclosures is independent and is not affiliated with Allegion. Confirm the actual enclosure and hardware supplier's convention. Draw the physical arrangement instead of translating an unexplained LH or RH code by assumption.

What belongs beside each door tag?
Reference a particular elevation or plan view and the approved revision. A door hand is not the same field as a latch variant, handle cutout, opening angle or access clearance. Keep those interfaces linked but separately reviewed.
| Field | Evidence | Review action |
|---|---|---|
| Door identity | Door tag and enclosure face | Match the plan, elevation and schedule |
| Viewing side | Outside or another explicitly named reference | Add a view arrow if needed |
| Hinges | Left or right from that reference | Check the actual leaf, including paired doors |
| Swing | Towards or away from the same viewer | Show the approved swing arc |
| Hardware | Exact item and supplier handing convention | Confirm code and physical arrangement agree |
| Coordination | Approved opening and access references | Escalate conflicts before issue |
How can two left-hand notes conflict?
Illustrative example. A fictional door schedule says hinges left when viewed from outside. A workshop note also says left, but its author viewed the leaf from inside. The words match while the intended hinge edges oppose each other. The drafter records the viewpoint conflict and requests a common reference.
The resolved record states the enclosure face, outside view, hinge edge and outward or inward swing, then links the approved hardware code. Do not mirror the fabrication view without reviewing all affected interfaces. This example supplies no real enclosure dimensions or approved opening angle.
What does a completed hand schedule not prove?
It does not certify egress, acoustic performance, weather sealing, structural adequacy or safe maintenance access. Those need the project's applicable design reviews and equipment evidence. A correct hinge description cannot establish an otherwise missing clearance.
Engineering sign-off is performed only by the registered engineer on the job. The schedule makes the approved geometry unambiguous for coordination and fabrication review.
Common questions
What else should the bid team know?
Can LH be issued without a viewing reference?
Record the supplier convention and viewing side so the physical arrangement is unambiguous.
Is door handing the same as handle handing?
Do not assume it is. Check the actual hardware item and its manufacturer convention.
Does the swing arc prove safe access?
No. Access and clearance remain separate approved design checks.
